Whether it’s a child, pet or business, picking out the right name can be a battle. It’s something that sticks forever — for the most part — and when it’s a business, the name becomes part of the branding and the customer’s perception, too.
Recently, Kirsten Gjesdal, owner of Brookings, SD-based The Carrot Seed Kitchen, opened up about the meaning behind the name of her store. So, inspired by her, we polled several independent gourmet housewares retailers to see how they, too, came up with their store names. While some names are straightforward, others have deep-rooted meanings, are inside jokes or were even lucky breaks.
Check out how these stores ended up with the names they have today.
