The Wooden Spoon, located in Chicago, IL, has marked its 17th business anniversary. The store, which is owned by Sean and Trina Sheridan, hosted an in-store event on Saturday, December 7 to commemorate the milestone.
The store opened its doors in the Andersonville section of the city, and has evolved as the community has evolved. The business also put an interesting spin on its cooking classes and workshops, creating entertainment-centric classes to bring in a new segment of customers.
While traditional-style cooking classes are still a boon for the retailer, one of the most successful cooking classes is a bit out-of-the traditional box.
“We also have a cooking with comedy night. We have an improv comedy troupe down the street and we’ll do the whole cooking class and then for 45 minutes, this comedy troupe will come in and they will eat their dessert and watch the comedy show,” said Trina Sheridan. “That’s been really successful.”
According to a story on Block Club Chicago, Sean Sheridan said The Wooden Spoon has thrived because of Andersonville’s commitment to local business, so Saturday’s event is a small way to recognize that support.
“Andersonville really shops local,” he told the website. “They get that if you want small business to stay around, you have to shop there.”
