The Cook Store of Mountain Brooke, based in Birmingham, AL, was recently named a “Retailer of the Year” by its local Alabama Retail Association. According to local media report, the retailer won the title in the category of retailers with annual sales under $1 million.
Opened in 1975 by Sam Franks, the store was originally called The Kitchen Shoppe. Throughout its history, the shop was sold first to Betty Knight who changed the name, and was then sold again in 1999 to Wesley Lassen, who has been running the business for the past 16 years.
Of the recognition, Lassen said, “I am proud of The Cook Store, thankful for a great team of employees and grateful to all of our customers who have become friends during these 20 years. I am also appreciative of the Alabama Retail Association’s efforts on behalf of local retailers. We are here to stay!”
