Chicago, IL-based cooking school and gourmet housewares retailer, The Chopping Block, has been selected as a U.S. Global Innovator Award (gia) winner through the program sponsored by the International Housewares Association.
The Chopping Block, alongside several global honorees, will receive its award as part of the gia Awards ceremony scheduled to be held during the International Home + Housewares Show in Chicago, March 10 – 13.
As part of its honor, The Chopping Block will be featured in the gia showcase in the Hall of Global Innovation in the Lakeside Center lobby throughout the duration of the IH+HS. There, visuals of the award-winning store design and branding ideas, exquisite visual merchandising and innovative displays will be on display.
According to organizers, The Chopping Block was chosen for excellence in its overall mission statement, vision and strategy, as well as several other qualities, including its store design and layout; visual merchandising, displays and window displays; marketing, advertising and promotions; customer service and staff training; and innovation.
Owner/Chef Shelley Young opened The Chopping Block in a small cottage in Lincoln Park in 1997 as a small cooking school and antique cookware shop. The brand now has two locations in Chicago and is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary. In addition to recreational cooking classes and its gourmet retail shop, The Chopping Block also offers private events.
