The Chopping Block, a Chicago, IL-based cooking school and gourmet housewares store, recently celebrated its 23rd anniversary. To mark the occasion, owner/chef Shelley Young took to Facebook Live to chat with customers and give them a tour of her private cooking studio. The store is currently closed due to COVID-19 regulations.
During the chat, Young discussed the various ways The Chopping Block is keeping connected with customers. Young showcased some of the new recipes she is testing as well as her testing of Smithey Ironware cast iron cookware. In addition, Young and the staff will be hosting virtual cooking classes in the near future and are also keeping customers connected via a private Facebook group page that features weekly recipe challenges.
Of the anniversary, Young stated the following in a customer newsletter: “Never in a million years would we have imagined we would be closed on our 23rd anniversary. We’ve come a long way in 23 years, and we’ll be back in business for the next chapter as soon as we safely can!”
Young opened The Chopping Block in a small cottage in Lincoln Park on April 4, 1997 as a small cooking school and antique cookware shop. The brand now has two locations in Chicago and was the 2017 Global Innovation Award (gia) winner.
