Provisions Mercantile, located in Asheville, NC, has opened its doors. According to a local media outlet, the store originally planned to open in March, but the date was pushed back due to COVID-19.
Provisions Mercantile is owned by Heather and Matt Wright, who, according to the retailer’s website, are both natives of Asheville, NC. The couple established the store last year as a pop-up shop in a nearby location, while they renovated their current location.
The Wrights position the new shop as a modern-day mercantile as a destination that captures inspiration from the classic general store, providing consumers with a mix of nostalgia and modern trends and products sourced globally and locally. Some of the brands the store carries include Smithey, Corkcicle and Mosser.
On the retailer’s Facebook page, owner Heather Wright posted the following in response to the store’s opening: “It is making our hearts so happy seeing each person that has come out to support our first days of being open on Haywood Rd. Thank you for celebrating with us. Thank you for coming in to say hello. Thank you for being so awesome Asheville!”
