Amanda Stanek, owner of Volant, PA-based The Kitchen Shoppe, took ownership of the store 16 years ago and has put her own stamp on the retail store ever since.
She recently spoke to local news outlet Business Journal Daily about how she — and the independent housewares industry — needs to let go of the past in order to push forward into the future.
“A lot of these shops in town do specialized crafts and particular things that you can’t find anywhere else. I’m selling things you can find in your local Giant Eagle,” she told the news outlet.
To that, Stanek said she is looking to make changes to The Kitchen Shoppe in order to continue to thrive. While she already hosts cooking classes and private events, she said she is looking to add a small cafe to the store, which will entice people to pay a visit even when they aren’t planning to buy new housewares.
“I need to get out of my head and what I did years prior, and start looking to what I can do in the future to maintain and sustain,” she said.
