Michael Graves Design Makes A Comeback

Michael Graves Design (MGD) is launching a new collection of housewares at the upcoming Inspired Home Show, scheduled to be held March 14 to 17 in Chicago. The announcement comes after The Henry Ford’s recent acquisition of the extensive collection of MGD product design archives.

According to the company, the archives consist of finished products, models, prototypes and production samples that span the career of the late Michael Graves and the history of his company. The archive represents partnerships with Alessi, Target, Stryker, Disney, Steuben, Swid Powell, Sunar, Lenox, Dansk, Duravit and Dornbracht, among others.

MGD said it has partnered with longtime housewares vendor HDS Trading to launch the collection, which will include classic designs and new items. The assortment will include kitchen gadgets, kitchen organization, food storage, pantryware and accessories.

“The Michael Graves Design brand has always stood for finding unmet consumer needs and filling those gaps with solutions that improve people’s lives,” said Donald Strum, principal, product design, MGD. “After more than two decades of exclusive relationships with major retailers, we’re thrilled to launch our new housewares line that can now be widely distributed across the retail landscape.”

The Henry Ford also plans to create permanent and temporary exhibitions with the Michael Graves archive. In celebration of the acquisition, a selection of 21 artifacts is currently on display inside Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation.
