Kitchen Essentials, based in Nevada, MO, held a fundraiser to benefit the local chapter of the Special Olympics. With 73 athletes, it is one of the biggest programs in the area.
The store has been holding this fundraiser for the last three years, according to local news outlet Nevada Daily Mail, and does it in the form of a barbecue outside the store. It started as an anniversary celebration, as Traci Cliffman, owner of Kitchen Essentials, looked for a way to give back to the community after approaching her first anniversary.
Each year, the benefit raises funds for different needs of the organization. This year’s barbecue sold 200 hot dogs and raised $1,166, which is earmarked to help purchase uniforms for athletes in Nevada’s Special Olympics program, said the news outlet.
