Hedley & Bennett, a Los Angeles, CA-based manufacturer of handmade chef-quality aprons, has developed the Wake Up & Fight Mask, in collaboration with Dr. Robert Cho, chief of staff of Shriners for Children Medical Center in Pasadena, CA.
According to the manufacturer, the masks, while not a direct substitute for N95 or surgical procedural masks nor FDA approved, are designed to help reduce the transmission of the COVID-19 among medical staff and food service personnel, working on the frontlines.
The Hedley & Bennett mask is made of washable, reusable 100 percent cotton and has been designed to fit a suggested HEPA-grade filter, which the company stated on its website. The mask has also been designed to fit as many faces as possible and is cut generously around the nose and cheek.
The masks are currently under production and can be purchased individually with with the company’s “Buy 1, Give 1” plan. The company is also accepting donations.
