GI Roundtable Series: The Future Of Gourmet Retailing

Independent gourmet kitchenware stores can’t be too nearsighted as they confront the complex challenges of today’s retail market. Storeowners on a recent GOURMET INSIDER® roundtable agreed it is imperative to begin identifying and implementing necessary changes now to secure a productive future for the channel in a marketplace that is being reshaped at a breakneck pace.

The roundtable panel during the Dallas Total Home & Gift Market looked to bring clarity to such potentially puzzling topics as cultivating Millennial shoppers and employees; redefining a store’s marketing and promotional identity; planning for succession; and ultimately, refining and amplifying stories and experiences unique to each store to disrupt the retail disruptors.

The retail panel, moderated by Gourmet Insider managing editor, Emily Cappiello, included Anne Dowell of Apron Strings (Hutchinson, KS); Karen Hughes of Artichoke (Cincinnati, OH); Dave and Mary Weldy of Culinary Apple (Chelan, WA); Lindsey Gray of Eggshells Kitchen Co. (Little Rock, AR); Dave West of Rolling Pin Kitchen Emporium (Brandon, FL); Charles Nelson of Toque Blanche (Half Moon Bay, CA); Kym Habig, Cane River Kitchenware (Natchitoches, LA); and Pam Gabriel of Sweet Gourmet (Tyler, TX)

Hosted by the Dallas Market Center, the Gourmet Insider roundtable was sponsored by Dexas, Hammer Stahl, Chef’s Design (Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry) and KitchenIQ.
