Facebook and Instagram, both owned by Facebook, have created the ability for stores to add a shopping platform to their social media pages, the brand announced.
According to Facebook, Facebook Shops is designed to help small businesses sell online. The Shops feature was designed to make it easy for businesses to set up a single online store for customers to access on both Facebook and Instagram. Creating a shop is free and simple, the company said. Businesses can choose the products they want to feature from their catalog and then customize the look and feel of their shop with a cover image and accent colors that showcase their brand.
The company explained that people can find Facebook Shops on a business’ Facebook Page or Instagram profile, or discover them through stories or ads. There, they can opt to make a purchase without leaving the app or through the business website.
Social Media Today noted that the new Shop Builder tool, which should be rolling out to businesses shortly, will be able to connect to a business’ current e-commerce provider, or can be a standalone experience.
