At the beginning of 2019, Sudbury, MA-based Duck Soup, an independent gourmet housewares and specialty food store, purchased the rights to Sky Bar. The chocolate bar brand was up for grabs after the New England Confectionary Company (NECCO) went out of business last year.
Now, after purchasing the bar, Louise Mawhinney, owner of Duck Soup, and Jeff Green, formerly NECCO’s vp/research and development, and a 33 year NECCO veteran, have found a spot to begin production on the bar – and it happens to be right next door to the existing shop.
“We just ordered the equipment and we are going to the town building inspector with our build-out plan. It’s all a bit unreal and I certainly feel the weight of responsibility to all of you Sky Bar fans. Stay tuned as we take this journey into the unknown,” Mawhinney wrote in a newsletter.
