According to new research by FONA International, iced coffee is still a top trend amongst the Millennial coffee consumer as the desire for taste, price and flavors are top of mind for this budding group of coffee connoisseurs.
Respondents said that when it comes to flavors, they are most likely to be drawn the traditional route, however there is room for experimentation. 34% of respondents said that flavors like vanilla, caramel and mocha are the regular go-to flavors, with 22% enjoying seasonal flavors like pumpkin spice or gingerbread. However, 22% of respondents said that they are interested in flavor exploration and trying something unique.
But sweet and dessert-inspired flavors are what attract the most Millennial sippers when it comes to iced coffee, with 82% of survey respondents wanting sweet flavors in their iced coffee and 65% noting that they crave those that mimic their favorite sweet treats. Some of the flavor profiles that are growing amongst this coffee consumer are:
- Dulce de leche
- Brown sugar
- Creme brulee
- Salted caramel
- Cookie butter
- Peanut butter cup
However, the survey reported that both taste and price were more important to the Millennial coffee consumer than flavoring.
Additionally, Millennials feel there is still a way to go when it comes to iced coffee products — 65% of respondents believe there is opportunity for improvement in iced coffee products available today and 27% are looking for more flavors.
