Chilewich has teamed up with decoupage artist and designer John Derian on a new collection of placemats and runners. The company said the pieces combine printed images from Derian’s archive with contemporary woven textiles to create new foundation pieces for the table.
According to the company, the John Derian + Chilewich collection is made in the U.S. and is woven from TerraStrand, Chilewich’s custom-extruded yarns made of phthalate-free vinyl extruded over a core of either fiberglass or polyester.
In addition, the placemats and runners are suitable for indoor and outdoor use, are easy to clean and made in the USA. Patterns include British Fern, Cloudy Day, Flora’s Dictionary, Paired Hummingbirds, Sepia Plants and Flowers and others.
“I’m always inspired by unexpected juxtapositions,” said Sandy Chilewich, founder and creative director of Chilewich. “And that’s what the John Derian + Chilewich collection is—vintage prints from John’s extraordinary archive coming together with our durable and easy-to-clean textiles. The material one would imagine with John’s imagery is linen, cotton, or silk, but printing on our modern woven textiles brings these beautiful antique images into the twenty-first century.”
John Derian + Chilewich is available from Chilewich and John Derian and at selected retailers worldwide.
