Seven of the 250 products chosen to be featured in the SustainAbility: design for a better world display at the winter 2012 New York International Gift Fair have been designated as “SustainAbility3,” the fair’s highest level of sustainability for products, production processes and business practices.
“These seven products not only are made with eco-friendly materials, but also are manufactured by hand or with low-impact energy sources,” said Dorothy Belshaw, NYIGF director and svp/ GLM “Their producers also share a prevailing ethic to support charitable organizations, or to work with ‘fair trade’ artisan groups in developing countries.”
The highest-ranking products include Bungalow360's Bungalow360 Canvas Tote, Elizabeth W's Shea Butter Body Cream, Fluf's Soft Bin handmade storage container, Mariposa's Sueño Recycled Aluminum tableware , Modern-Twis'ts Studio Line of silicone coasters and trivets, PATS' hand carved wooden bowls and stools, and the Sugoi Group's Eco Collections, including a bamboo spork utensil and organic hemp Kombucha bag.
Mary Jurek Design’s Santa Fe round serve tray is made of 18/8 stainless steel and features an etched basketweave interior pattern and decorated with blue onyx stones. It can be hand washed only, but is said to never need polishing, noted the company.
