Laura Bachman, owner of The Chef's Gallery and cooking school in Stillwater, MN, passed away unexpectedly November 16. Active in her local retail community, Laura will be deeply missed by the Gourmet Catalog family and the industry, according to a statement from Gourmet Catalog. The Chef’s Gallery has been a member of GC since Laura opened the store in 1999.
“We will miss her energy, dynamic personality and creative contribution to the Group,” said Janis Johnson, president and founder of Gourmet Catalog, after the family requested that Johnson inform the industry of Bachman’s death.
After closing for the day Tuesday, the staff at The Chef's Gallery made a public commitment to honor Laura's dream and hard work by opening for business Wednesday morning. In an article in her local paper, the Stillman Gazette, her employees mourned their loss while making it clear they would carry on Laura's vision.
"She was the driving force," said Stephanie Jameson, The Chef's Gallery's cooking school director. "This is her baby and she was creative and she was brilliant."
Bachman was a strong supporter of Valley Outreach in Stillwater, and memorials may be made to the Outreach, at 1911 Curve Crest Boulevard West in Stillwater, or to the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital, St. Paul.
Bachman is survived by three sons, Nathan, Ryan and Zach, and three sisters, Janet Blankenburg, Nancy Lindgren and Beth Winter.
